Benedict Muasya has announced that the Budget Policy Statement (BPS) for the 2025/26 financial year is currently undergoing public participation involving key stakeholders across the country.
Speaking ahead of a crucial session with the Budget and Appropriations Committee, Muasya said this year’s BPS outlines the broad strategic priorities and policy goals that will guide both the national government and county governments in preparing their budgets for the upcoming financial year and the medium term.
The Commissioner emphasized that the public participation process is critical in ensuring transparency, inclusivity, and accountability in the budgeting process. He noted that the BPS will set the fiscal framework that determines revenue allocation, expenditure ceilings, and development priorities for both levels of government.
Muasya further revealed that he had an opportunity to consult with the Cabinet Secretary in charge of the National Treasury ahead of the parliamentary engagement, describing the discussions as insightful and instrumental in aligning revenue allocation considerations with national fiscal policy.
The Budget Policy Statement is a key planning document in Kenya’s budget-making cycle, forming the foundation upon which detailed estimates are later developed and approved by Parliament.
