Mulyungi Under Pressure as CPA John Makau Gains Ground in Mwingi Central
The political temperature in Mwingi Central Constituency is rising as embattled area MP Gideon Mulyungi faces mounting pressure from emerging challenger CPA John Makau Kimwele ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Makau’s camp now claims growing dominance across key wards, with leaders and residents from Nuu, Nguni, Kivou and Mui wards publicly endorsing his bid. The endorsements signal an intensifying political contest in the constituency as early campaigns begin to take shape.
During recent consultative meetings, local leaders backing Makau emphasized unity and peaceful political engagement, urging supporters to shun violence and divisive rhetoric.
“The ambition to serve is not worth the blood of any person,” one ward leader stated, calling on residents to maintain peace and cohesion as the 2027 race approaches.
Makau has anchored his message on economic empowerment and social upliftment, pledging to “lift the poor from the depths of want and place their feet firmly on the ladder of prosperity.” His campaign narrative focuses on inclusive development, youth empowerment and expanding democratic space within the constituency.
The unfolding political contest comes as Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has reiterated that all aspirants seeking party tickets in 2027 will undergo competitive nominations, dismissing expectations of direct nominations.
Makau has welcomed the move, expressing readiness to face party primaries and stating that leadership should be determined by the will of the people through a transparent democratic process.
Supporters argue that Mwingi Central needs progressive leadership focused on revitalizing struggling households and modernizing livelihoods. However, Mulyungi remains an experienced political figure with an established support base, setting the stage for what is shaping up to be a closely watched parliamentary contest.
With nearly a year to heightened campaign season, the battle for Mwingi Central is steadily gathering momentum, as both camps mobilize support in what promises to be a defining political showdown in 2027.
