The Director for Agriculture Francis Kitoo today led a team of agricultural officers on a field visit to Manyenyoni village in Township Ward, Kitui Central Sub- County where they engaged youth farmer Ian Syengo in a move aimed at assessing on-farm practices and strengthening extension advisory services.

Ian, a university graduate with a strong passion for agriculture, has ventured into broiler farming and currently keeps over 300 chickens. He has embraced value addition, supplying chicken to restaurants within Kitui town, steadily building a reliable market for his produce.

In addition to poultry, Ian practices mixed farming, rearing Galla goats and sheep while also cultivating a variety of crops including grapes, pigeon peas, maize, beans, mangoes and bananas.

The team assessed the farm’s operations and provided technical guidance on pest and disease control to improve productivity and ensure sustainability of the enterprises. They encouraged the farmer to continue adopting best agricultural practices and maintaining proper farm management records.

The visit is part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to monitor field activities, offer technical support to farmers and enhance delivery of extension services across the county, in line with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s agenda of promoting sustainable agriculture and improved livelihoods.
