Kitui Executive for Agriculture and Livestock, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, has today distributed improved Galla bucks to organised farmer groups in Kitui Rural,Kitui South and Kitui East Sub-counties in Kiusyani, Mutomo and Zombe respectively, in a bid to enhance breed quality, increase livestock productivity, and strengthen farmers’ livelihoods. The initiative aims to promote faster growth rates, higher meat yields, and improved resilience among local goat populations through controlled breeding.
The distribution exercise also served as a platform to sensitise farmers on the importance of organised group structures in accessing government support, markets, and extension services, as well as enhancing knowledge sharing among farmers.
This initiative is in line with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s broader agenda of revitalising the livestock sub-sector by promoting climate-smart agriculture, improving local breeds, and increasing household incomes through sustainable and market-oriented livestock production systems across Kitui County.
