Leaders Rally Behind Nicholas Mulila During Mother’s Burial as Kitui 2027 Succession Politics Intensify

A strong political message emerged during the burial of the late matriarch Veronica Mulila after several leaders openly rallied behind Safaricom Corporate Security Officer and gubernatorial hopeful Nicholas Mulila as a potential successor to Julius Malombe in the 2027 race for the Kitui governorship.

The burial ceremony, held at Katheka village in Kitui West Constituency, drew thousands of mourners from across Kitui County and neighbouring regions. What began as a solemn send-off for the respected matriarch quickly turned into a gathering with clear political undertones as leaders praised Mulila’s leadership qualities and urged him to continue serving the people.

Governor Julius Malombe, who attended the funeral alongside residents and leaders, described the late Veronica Mulila as a devoted mother who dedicated her life to raising disciplined and responsible children while also supporting the welfare of her community.

Malombe said the values of discipline, integrity and hard work instilled in the Mulila family were evident in the achievements and leadership shown by her children.

Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani also paid tribute to the late matriarch, praising her for nurturing children who continue to contribute positively to the development of the county.

Several leaders who addressed the gathering described Veronica Mulila as a pillar of wisdom, unity and strength both within her family and the wider community.

Among those present were Senator Enoch Wambua, Woman Representative Irene Kasalu, former Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze, Joshua Kimilu, and Ben Muasya, alongside several Members of the County Assembly, county executives and representatives from the County Budget and Economic Forum.

Speakers urged the Mulila family to remain united and honour the legacy of the late matriarch by continuing to serve the community with integrity and dedication.

Political observers noted that the strong show of support witnessed during the burial signals growing momentum around Nicholas Mulila ahead of the 2027 elections, when Governor Julius Malombe is expected to exit office after completing his term.

While Mulila has not formally declared his candidacy, many residents and leaders present said the overwhelming support he received during the ceremony reflects increasing confidence in his leadership and his potential role in shaping the future of Kitui County.
