The seat is currently held by Makali Mulu, who is widely expected to vie for the Kitui gubernatorial seat under the same party, potentially opening up the constituency race.
Speaking exclusively to TCD Digital, Kilonzo described his defection as a major turning point in his political journey. He termed the move as a “fresh start” and “a promising new beginning” after a period of political uncertainty, expressing confidence that his decision aligns with the aspirations of the people he seeks to represent.
He revealed that his decision followed extensive consultations with political allies, advisors, and mentors, noting that leadership demands listening to the voice of the people.
