In a thrilling conclusion to the Kitui East Sub-County phase of the esteemed Kitui Governor’s Cup, Titanic FC from Voo/Kyamatu and Kikuu Starlets from Sombe/Mwitika claimed victory, earning the titles in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively.
Titanic FC narrowly defeated Ikuyuni FC (Nzambani Ward) 1-0 in a tense men’s final, demonstrating resilience and tactical discipline. In the women’s final, Kikuu Starlets beat Musukini Queens 1-0, winning through precise finishing and a solid defense.
The journey to the finals included intense semi-final and knockout matches that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Ikuyuni Queens won 1-0 against Muthungue Queens in the women’s semi-final, while Ngaaka Yakwa FC defeated Musukini FC 2-1 in the men’s semi-final.
This tournament went beyond winning trophies—it reflected the Kitui County Government’s goal of promoting grassroots sports. The Governor’s Cup aims to develop local talent, empower youth, encourage community unity, and foster social cohesion by bringing together teams from various wards and villages. It offers young athletes a chance to showcase their skills while engaging idle youth in positive and healthy activities that build character and unity.

The event attracted a lively crowd and prominent dignitaries. Chief Guest CECM Itiko and Joyce Titus led the guest list, accompanied by County Officers Naason Kang’alya and Paul, along with MCAs Malinga, Zack, Mamen, and Vuthi. Their attendance highlighted the county leadership’s dedication to grassroots development and youth empowerment through sports.
The new champions—Titanic FC and Kikuu Starlets—will now represent Kitui East at the next stage of the county-wide Governor’s Cup.
