The sub-county stage of the Kitui County Governor’s Cup has officially come to an exciting close after weeks of thrilling football action across the county’s eight sub-counties. The tournament brought together hundreds of young players, showcasing the immense talent and passion for football among the youth in Kitui County.
In the Kitui South Sub-County finals, Potential Soccer Giants (PSG) from Athi Ward emerged as the men’s champions after an impressive performance throughout the competition. In the women’s category, Isaa Queens from Mutha Ward lifted the trophy, cementing their dominance in the tournament and earning the sub-county title.
Speaking during the closing of the sub-county stage, Kitui County CECM for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services, Phoebe Mutemi, applauded the youth for their dedication and discipline on the field. She emphasized that sports remain a powerful tool for empowering young people and promoting unity within communities.
Mutemi noted that the Governor’s Cup has become an important platform for nurturing local talent and encouraging young people to pursue sports while embracing healthy lifestyles. She added that the county government remains committed to investing in youth programs that help identify and develop future sports stars.
The tournament has attracted large crowds of fans from different parts of the county, with communities turning up to cheer their teams. From Mwingi North to Kitui South, the matches delivered memorable moments and fierce competition as teams battled for sub-county bragging rights.
With the sub-county phase now complete, attention now shifts to the next stages of the Governor’s Cup, where the best teams from across the county will compete for the overall title in what promises to be an even more exciting showdown.
