PROGRESS as NOC-K Partners with Kitui County to Boost Governor’s Cup and Youth Sports Development

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has partnered with the County Government of Kitui to support the ongoing Kitui Governor’s Cup, in a move aimed at strengthening sports development and youth empowerment across the county.

NOC-K President Shadrack Maluki welcomed the collaboration, noting that the partnership will help nurture local talent and expose young athletes to greater opportunities at national and international levels.

“We are excited to partner with the County Government of Kitui to expose our talented youths to the world, promote sports excellence, and provide opportunities for them to showcase their abilities,” said Maluki.

The partnership was deliberated during a courtesy call paid by Kitui County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services, Ms. Phoebe Mutemi, to the NOC-K president at his office. She reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to investing in sports as a tool for youth development, social cohesion, and community engagement.

Ms. Mutemi was accompanied by the Chief Officer for Youth, ICT and Sports, Mr. Nason Kang’alya.

The Kitui Governor’s Cup has continued to attract athletes, sports enthusiasts, and key stakeholders from across the county, serving as a platform for talent identification and grassroots sports growth. With the backing of NOC-K, the tournament is expected to receive a significant boost in terms of visibility, standards, and opportunities for participating athletes.
