The Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, on Tuesday joined President William Samoei Ruto at the Kimalel Goat Auction in Baringo County, where over 8,000 goats from local farmers were auctioned in a major boost to the livestock economy.
The event highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening livestock value chains and ensuring farmers benefit from fair and competitive markets. Addressing farmers, PS Mueke reiterated the administration’s resolve to empower producers at the grassroots.
“We continue empowering livestock farmers and putting more money into their pockets,” PS Mueke said.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of structured livestock markets as part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), noting that agriculture and livestock remain key pillars in improving rural livelihoods and household incomes.
The Kimalel auction was lauded as a model initiative that enhances market access, price transparency, and income security for farmers, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions.
