Kitui County’s healthcare sector has received a major boost following the delivery of a new consignment of oxygen support equipment from Amref Health Africa under the ongoing Oxygen Support Project. The donation, received by the County Ministry of Health and Sanitation, seeks to enhance access to medical oxygen in health facilities, ensuring patients receive timely and quality care.
The consignment includes 510 oxygen cylinders, 120 wall flow meters, 10 patient monitors, and 15 oxygen analyzers. The equipment will be distributed across key health facilities to strengthen oxygen availability and improve patient monitoring in critical units such as maternity, newborn, theatre, and emergency departments.
Speaking during the handover, county health officials expressed gratitude to Amref Health Africa for the continued partnership and commitment to strengthening the county’s healthcare systems. They noted that the support will significantly improve emergency response and patient outcomes, particularly for newborns and critically ill patients who rely on uninterrupted oxygen supply.
The Oxygen Support Project is a national initiative being implemented by Amref Health Africa in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), Council of Governors (CoG), Kenya Coordinating Mechanism (KCM), and other partners. The project focuses on improving oxygen generation, piping, and distribution systems in health facilities across Kenya to ensure sustainability and efficiency in oxygen delivery.
In Kitui County, 20 health facilities are set to benefit from ongoing oxygen piping and manifold installation works under the project. These upgrades will allow continuous oxygen flow directly to hospital wards, eliminating the need for manual cylinder transport and enhancing safety and efficiency in patient care.
The County Government of Kitui, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, reaffirmed its dedication to improving healthcare delivery across all levels. The governor’s administration continues to invest in infrastructure, equipment, and partnerships that ensure Kitui residents have access to safe, reliable, and affordable healthcare services.
