Veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli has called on President William Ruto to take decisive action and ban early political campaigns across the country. Speaking amid rising political activity, Atwoli warned that premature rallies risk heating up the political environment too early, potentially destabilizing national cohesion.
Atwoli expressed concern that sustained early campaigns could erode tolerance among leaders and supporters, creating fertile ground for division. He cautioned that if left unchecked, such political momentum might trigger sectional, political, or even tribal tensions, undermining peace and unity.
The outspoken union boss emphasized the need for leaders to prioritize development and service delivery instead of engaging in early political mobilization. He noted that Kenya has previously experienced the consequences of heightened political temperatures and urged restraint to safeguard national stability.
His remarks come at a time when political alignments are beginning to take shape ahead of future elections, with leaders increasingly holding rallies across different regions. Atwoli’s plea adds to growing calls for responsible leadership and adherence to electoral timelines to maintain harmony in the country.
