Airtel Kenya has intensified competition in the telecommunications sector by rolling out a new data bundle that offers customers 4GB for KSh 100 valid for 24 hours. The move places the company ahead of its main rival, Safaricom, which currently offers 2GB for the same price and duration.

The aggressive pricing by Airtel Kenya is expected to shake up the market, giving consumers more value for their money amid rising demand for affordable internet. Industry observers note that such offers could trigger a price war as telecom providers seek to attract and retain subscribers in an increasingly competitive space.

Consumers have already begun reacting to the new offer, with many welcoming the increased data allocation at a lower cost per gigabyte. Analysts say the move could push Safaricom to review its pricing strategy in order to maintain its dominant market position

Airtel’s latest offer is also seen as a strategic push to grow its market share in Kenya, where Safaricom has long maintained a dominant lead. By doubling the data allocation at the same price point, Airtel Kenya is positioning itself as a consumer-friendly alternative, particularly for young users and heavy internet consumers.

The development comes at a time when internet usage in Kenya continues to surge, driven by increased smartphone penetration, digital services, and remote work trends. Affordable data bundles have become a key factor influencing customer loyalty, with subscribers increasingly willing to switch providers in search of better value and faster connectivity.

Regulatory authorities, including the Communications Authority of Kenya, have in the past encouraged fair competition in the sector to ensure consumers benefit from improved services and competitive pricing. Market watchers say sustained price competition could ultimately lead to more innovative packages and improved network quality across all providers.Ends////
