On Wednesday 8th April 2026- Kitui Executive for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele issued improved Galla bucks to organised farmer groups in Kitui Central Sub-County, in a move aimed at boosting breed improvement and enhancing livestock productivity across the region.

The improved Galla breed, known for its fast growth, high fertility, and resilience to harsh climatic conditions, is expected to significantly upgrade local goat populations through crossbreeding with indigenous stock. This intervention will not only increase meat production but also improve household incomes and strengthen food and nutritional security among farming communities.

Dr. Kimwele emphasized the importance of proper management practices to ensure farmers fully benefit from the programme, urging beneficiaries to adopt good husbandry practices, including proper feeding, housing, and disease control. He noted that the county government will continue to provide extension services and technical support to guide farmers on effective breeding and livestock management.

The initiative forms part of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s broader strategy to enhance livestock production and productivity across the county, while building resilience among farmers in the face of climate change.

Farmers who received the bucks expressed optimism that the improved breeds will transform their livelihoods by increasing the value of their herds and opening up better market opportunities.
