On thursday, 26 March, 2026 -!The Kitui County Minister for Water and Irrigation, Peter G. Nkunda, has received two fully completed and functional water sump wells in Mwingi North Sub-County for professional management.
The projects were implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.The two projects include the Karumu Sump Well Water Supply, located along River Karumu in Kaningo Village, Tseikuru Ward, and the Nguuku Sump Well Water Supply situated at River Nguuku in Nguuku Village, Mumoni Ward.
Upon receiving the projects, Minister Nkunda officially handed them over to the Kiambere-Mwingi Water and Sanitation Company (KIMWASCO) for management, with a directive to ensure reliable and adequate water supply to the local communities.
Further, he thanked the technical team for ensuring timely and quality implementation of the projects, assuring residents that the projects will be professionally managed to ensure sustainable provision of clean and safe water.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Chief Officer for Environment and Climate Change, David Soi, commended the community for its cooperation throughout the project implementation period. He further urged residents to safeguard the facilities against vandalism to ensure their sustainability.
The projects were funded under the World Bank-supported Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme and implemented by the County Government of Kitui during the FY2024/2025 through the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Natural Resources, where the Climate Change Programme is domiciled.
Also present at the event were Water Director Eng. Kennedy Mutati, KIMWASCO Technical Manager Eng. David Nzuki, and other senior officials from the Ministries of Water, Environment, and the Office of the Governor.
