Kitui County gubernatorial aspirant Dr. Irene Kasalu today joined residents in commemorating International Women’s Day at Nyuani Primary School in Mutonguni Ward, Kitui West Sub-County, where she celebrated the achievements and contributions of women in society.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Kasalu praised women for their dedication and hard work in families, communities, and leadership spaces across both county and national governments. She acknowledged the growing number of women taking up key roles in public service and development.

In a show of commitment to girls’ education, Dr. Kasalu sponsored the secondary school education of a girl from Nyuani Primary School who had been unable to report to school due to financial constraints. She said supporting girls’ education remains one of the most effective ways of empowering communities.

“Women are the backbone of families and they deserve to be celebrated,” she said, emphasizing the need to uplift women and girls through education and equal opportunities.

The celebrations attracted several leaders, including Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze, County Executive Committee Members, Members of the County Assembly, and women representative aspirants Fridah Makasi and Rhoda Kithuku, among others.

Dr. Kasalu is among leaders who have declared interest in the Kitui gubernatorial race in 2027, positioning herself as a champion of women empowerment and education in the county.
