Kitui Governor Julius Malombe today led residents in commemorating International Women’s Day celebrations at Nyuani Primary School in Mutonguni Ward, Kitui West Subcounty, in an event that highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment and leadership. 🌸
Speaking during the celebrations, Governor Malombe praised women for their critical role in building families, strengthening communities, and driving economic growth across the county. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering women through expanded access to education, healthcare, leadership opportunities, and economic empowerment programmes.
“As your Governor, I assure you that the County Government of Kitui remains steadfast in promoting policies and initiatives that advance the well-being of women and girls. True empowerment begins with access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities,” said the Governor.
The county boss highlighted several initiatives implemented by his administration, including the employment of 1,678 ECDE teachers—most of whom are women—expansion of clean water access through solarized boreholes in Mutonguni Ward, and support for women entrepreneurs through the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) programme. 💧📚
Governor Malombe also congratulated Monica Juma for her recent appointment as Under-Secretary-General at the United Nations, describing her achievement as a source of inspiration for young girls and women in Kitui and across the country. He further lauded Agnes Mulewa following her appointment and swearing-in as Kitui County Secretary, noting that her rise reflects the growing role of women in leadership and public service.
Among leaders present at the event were Kitui County Members of Parliament Irene Kasalu and Edith Nyenze, Commission on Revenue Allocation Commissioner Ben Muasya, as well as several County Executive Committee Members and Chief Officers who joined residents in celebrating the achievements and contributions of women.
