Kitui County Partners with Hope Mobility Kenya to Empower Persons with Disabilities

Kitui County Government has entered into a strategic partnership with Hope Mobility Kenya aimed at improving the lives of persons living with physical disabilities across the county. The collaboration seeks to enhance mobility, independence, and dignity while strengthening community inclusion.
Speaking during a meeting held at Hope Mobility Kenya offices in Nairobi on Monday, January 19, 2026, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Ms. Phoebe Mutemi underscored the countyโs commitment to empowering vulnerable groups through practical and sustainable interventions.
Ms. Mutemi noted that access to appropriate mobility solutions is a critical step toward enabling persons with disabilities to live productive and fulfilling lives. She emphasized that mobility is not just about movement, but about access to opportunities, services, and social participation.
The partnership will see the provision of customized assistive devices designed to meet the specific needs of individual beneficiaries. These devices will be carefully assessed and prescribed with the support of specialists from the Ministry of Health to ensure effectiveness and comfort.
According to the CECM, empowering persons with disabilities will also have a positive ripple effect on their families and caregivers. With improved mobility support, caregivers will have more time and flexibility to engage in income-generating activities, thereby improving household livelihoods.
Ms. Mutemi highlighted that the initiative aligns with Kitui Countyโs broader agenda on social protection, inclusivity, and improved quality of life for all residents, particularly those facing physical challenges.
She further stated that the county views the partnership as a long-term collaboration, not a one-off intervention, aimed at building sustainable systems that continuously support persons with disabilities.
Hope Mobility Kenya was lauded for its role in providing technical expertise and innovative mobility solutions, which will be critical in ensuring that beneficiaries receive devices that truly meet their daily needs.
Ms. Mutemi was accompanied to the meeting by Acting Chief Officer Esther Mutemi and Deputy Director Tabitha Mweu, who reiterated the departmentโs readiness to coordinate and implement the program effectively at the county level.
The Kitui County Government expressed optimism that the partnership will significantly improve independence, dignity, and economic participation among persons with disabilities, reinforcing the countyโs commitment to inclusive development.
