The government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming Kenya’s dairy sector through modernization and farmer empowerment. Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Jonathan Mueke, said the ministry is focused on enhancing milk production, processing, and income generation for farmers across the country.

Speaking at the Dairy Training Institute in Naivasha, the PS said he joined the Cabinet Secretary for Livestock Development, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, to deliver 15 bulk milk coolers valued at KSh.114 million to Baringo and Nakuru Counties. The equipment was provided under the Livestock Value Chain Support Project (LVCSP), which aims to strengthen dairy infrastructure and improve milk handling efficiency.

According to the PS, the new coolers will benefit over 4,500 farmers and help aggregate approximately 29,000 litres of milk daily, reducing post-harvest losses and ensuring better market access for smallholder producers. He noted that such investments are part of the government’s broader strategy to make the dairy value chain more profitable and competitive.

During the event, the ministry also commissioned a solar-powered milk cooler, marking a milestone in sustainable agricultural innovation. The PS highlighted that this green technology demonstrates Kenya’s readiness to adopt environmentally friendly solutions that align with global climate goals while boosting rural productivity.

Hon. Mueke reaffirmed that the government will continue investing in modern technologies and farmer capacity-building initiatives to drive growth in the livestock sector. He urged farmers to embrace best practices in milk production, hygiene, and cooperative management to fully benefit from the ongoing transformation
