The Policyholders Compensation Fund (PCF) has rolled out a major public sensitization campaign in Kitui County under the banner “PCFMtaani,” aimed at educating residents on their rights to compensation from collapsed insurance firms. The initiative, already conducted in 14 counties, seeks to demystify the Fund’s role and strengthen public confidence in Kenya’s insurance sector. Through grassroots engagement, PCF is encouraging affected policyholders to lodge claims and access compensation.

Speaking during the launch, Principal Officer for Insurance Services Hellen Mokaya emphasized that many Kenyans remain unaware of their eligibility for compensation. The Fund is currently processing claims from companies such as United Insurance, Xplico Insurance, and Invesco Assurance, all under liquidation. Mokaya noted that the campaign is designed to bridge the information gap and empower citizens to seek financial relief, with compensation capped at KSh 500,000 per claim as per recent government guidelines.

The five-day campaign, running from April 13 to 17, targets key grassroots stakeholders including media practitioners, boda boda riders, matatu operators, insurance agents, and organized groups such as KNUT and KUPPET. Religious leaders, administrators, and business representatives are also part of the outreach to ensure widespread dissemination of information across communities.

PCF revealed that it has so far compensated over KSh 358 million to claimants across various collapsed insurers, including Resolution Insurance, Concord Insurance, and BlueShield Insurance. The Fund says reforms to the Insurance Act in 2019 have significantly improved the speed of compensation by allowing payouts once an insurer is placed under statutory management, eliminating long court processes.

The “PCFMtaani” forums will continue across all 47 counties, with PCF reiterating its commitment to protecting policyholders and restoring trust in the insurance industry. Residents who have not lodged claims, or are yet to receive compensation, have been urged to contact the Fund directly or submit claims through its official platforms.
