Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is facing fresh internal controversy after outspoken blogger Robert Alai claimed there is a hidden scheme within the party’s top leadership regarding the position of Secretary General held by Edwin Sifuna. In a strongly worded statement, Alai alleged that the original intention of the party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) was to remove Sifuna, but the agenda was allegedly altered midway to a “Special NDC,” effectively shielding him from ouster.
According to Alai, resolutions by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) that sought to remove Sifuna were reportedly overturned, raising questions about internal decision-making within ODM. He further claimed that certain powerful figures within the party are deliberately retaining Sifuna as a strategic figure in their political engagements, particularly in relation to President William Samoei Ruto and the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The blogger also linked Babu Owino to the alleged scheme, suggesting that despite being seen as controversial voices within ODM, both he and Sifuna appear to enjoy protection from disciplinary action. He contrasted their situation with that of other party members such as Godfrey Osotsi and Kibagendi, who he claims have faced consequences for dissent. Alai argued that this selective approach indicates a broader strategy to manage internal rebellion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While ODM leadership has not officially responded to the claims, the allegations are likely to fuel further debate about unity and transparency within the party. Political analysts note that such internal disputes, if left unresolved, could impact ODM’s preparedness as the country gradually shifts focus toward the next electoral cycle.
