Kitui County has officially kicked off the 2025 Mashujaa Day Energy Week with a tree planting exercise at Ithookwe Primary School, led by Deputy Governor H.E. Augustine Kanani and Principal Secretaries Alex Wachira (Energy) and Mohammed Liban (Petroleum). The event, held under the theme “Transforming Lives Through Sustainable Energy Solutions,” marks the beginning of a weeklong series of activities aimed at promoting clean, affordable, and sustainable energy use across the country.

The Energy Week, running from October 13th to 19th at Kitui Teachers Training College, brings together key players in Kenya’s energy sector, including representatives from national and county governments, development partners, and private investors. The event will feature technology exhibitions, project launches, and public awareness campaigns designed to sensitize citizens on renewable energy innovations and efficiency practices.

Speaking during the launch, Deputy Governor Kanani commended the ongoing collaboration between the County Government of Kitui and the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), which is currently implementing 11 electrification projects across the county under a matching fund arrangement. Notable projects include Kiasa Maximization in Kitui Central, Kweluu Market/Catholic Maximization in Mwingi West, and Mwangeni–Ngomano–Kandong’o Primary School in Kitui East.

The Energy Week serves as a prelude to the Mashujaa Day national celebrations set for Monday, October 20th, 2025, at Ithookwe Stadium. The grand event will be graced by H.E. President Dr. William Ruto, Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, and Kitui Governor H.E. Dr. Julius Malombe, among other dignitaries. Also in attendance during the launch were REREC CEO Rose Ndanu, County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto, and several County Executive Committee Members and Chief Officers.
