A new opinion poll by Politrack Africa has placed Irene Kasalu in the lead in the race for the Kitui County gubernatorial seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to the March 2026 survey, Dr. Kasalu, a member of the Wiper patriotic front commands 35.2 percent support among voters, giving her a nine-point lead over her closest rival, Makali Mulu, who garnered 26.2 percent.
The poll further shows a tight contest for third place between Enoch Kiio Wambua and former governor Charity Ngilu. Wambua, also running under WDM, received 18.8 percent, narrowly edging Ngilu of the National Rainbow Coalition–Kenya (NARC-Kenya), who polled 18.6 percent.
The survey, conducted among 2,927 respondents across Kitui County, highlights the strong dominance of wiper patriotic front in the county’s political landscape. Combined support for the three WPF candidates—Kasalu, Mulu, and Wambua—stands at 80.2 percent, suggesting that the party’s nomination process could ultimately determine the winner of the gubernatorial race.
Despite the WPF advantage, Ngilu remains a significant contender on the NARC-Kenya ticket, trailing Wambua by only 0.2 percent, a margin considered statistically narrow.
The poll also indicates that voters in Kitui have largely made up their minds, with undecided voters at just 0.6 percent and other candidates accounting for 0.8 percent.
Political observers say the findings set the stage for what could become an intense nomination battle within WDM as the county heads toward the 2027 General Election, while Ngilu’s presence ensures the race remains competitive.
Politrack Africa says it will continue monitoring the race as political alignments and campaign activities intensify across Kitui County. 🗳️
