Kitui County Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani on Monday led a tree planting exercise in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) as part of ongoing efforts to enhance environmental conservation and restore degraded ecosystems in the county.
The activity brought together KWS officers, county government officials, and members of the local community who participated in planting hundreds of tree seedlings in a bid to increase forest cover in the semi-arid region.
Speaking during the exercise, Kanani emphasized the importance of tree planting in addressing climate change, restoring biodiversity, and improving livelihoods in Kitui County. He noted that collaborative efforts between government agencies and local communities are essential in protecting natural resources.
Officials from the Kenya Wildlife Service also reiterated their commitment to partnering with county governments to safeguard wildlife habitats and promote sustainable environmental practices.
Residents who participated in the event welcomed the initiative, saying such programs not only protect the environment but also create awareness on the importance of conserving natural resources for future generations.
