Residents of Yatta B2 in Kanyonyoo Ward have a reason to smile after the Member of Kitui County Assembly for Yatta Kwa Vonza, Mark Nding’o, officially handed over the site for the desilting of Kavulu Earth Dam.
The site handover ceremony, held on Friday, February 20, 2027, marked the beginning of long-awaited works aimed at restoring the dam’s water capacity. The project will involve the removal of accumulated silt to enhance water storage and ensure a steady supply for the community.
Residents turned up in large numbers to witness the exercise, expressing overwhelming joy as the contractor was introduced and formally took over the site. The contractor is expected to complete the works within a few weeks.
Kavulu Earth Dam serves as the only reliable source of water for the Yatta B2 community, supporting domestic use and livestock. Its restoration is therefore seen as a major relief to residents who have faced water shortages, especially during dry seasons.
Speaking during the handover, Hon. Nding’o reaffirmed his commitment to improving access to essential services, noting that water remains a top priority for the people of Yatta Kwa Vonza. He assured residents that the project will be closely monitored to ensure quality and timely completion.
The desilting exercise is expected to significantly improve water availability and boost livelihoods in the area.
