Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kelvin Kinengo has vowed to defend Governor Julius Malombe against what he termed as “endless political attacks” from leaders seeking relevance ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Speaker made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of three senior county officers at the Kitui County headquarters, an event officiated by Governor Malombe and attended by county leaders and senior officials.

Kinengo said the county leadership would remain focused on service delivery and development, urging politicians to avoid unnecessary confrontations that could derail progress. He emphasized the need for unity and respect for institutions as the county prepares for the next electoral cycle.

During the ceremony, Governor Malombe presided over the administration of the oath of office for newly appointed senior officers, marking the conclusion of a recruitment process that began in December 2024 and involved open vetting and approval by the Kitui County Assembly.

The governor noted that the appointments were made in strict adherence to the law and underscored the importance of integrity and professionalism in public service. The officers sworn in include Agnes Mulewa as County Secretary, Timothy Mwange Kyalo as County Attorney, and Christopher Ombunya as Secretary to the County Public Service Board. The oaths were administered by Kitui Principal Magistrate Sindani.

Malombe also announced the renewal of contracts for 19 Chief Officers whose terms expired in February 2026. He said the renewals were based on positive performance appraisals over the past three years and aligned with county human resource procedures.

The renewed contracts will run for two years or until successors are competitively recruited following the 2027 General Election. The governor urged all officers to execute their duties diligently to ensure effective service delivery and transformative development across the county.
