Kitui Deputy Speaker Nzilu Emerges as Front-Runner for Wiper Ticket in Kitui Central MP Race
The Deputy Speaker of the Kitui County Assembly and Kyangwithya West MCA, Hon. Christopher Nzilu Nzioka, is increasingly being viewed as the likely successor to Kitui Central MP Dr. Makali Mulu ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political signals from within Kitui Central indicate that senior leaders allied to the Wiper Democratic Movement are rallying behind Hon. Nzilu, positioning him as the preferred candidate to inherit the constituency seat once Dr. Mulu exits the race.
Sources within Wiper circles say Hon. Nzilu’s growing influence in county leadership, coupled with his grassroots popularity in Kyangwithya West and beyond, has strengthened his case as the party’s safest bet in retaining the seat.
Analysts argue that if Wiper were to issue Hon. Christopher Nzilu Nzioka with the party ticket, he would have an estimated 80 per cent chance of delivering the Kitui Central parliamentary seat to the party in 2027.
However, the race for the Wiper nomination remains competitive. Two other aspirants—Chris Ileli and Hon. Stephen Kilonzo—have also declared interest in the party ticket and are actively engaging party structures and supporters on the ground.
Local observers note that Kitui Central has historically leaned towards Wiper, making the party primaries the most decisive contest ahead of the general election.
As the 2027 polls draw closer, attention is now shifting to Wiper’s internal nomination process, with many residents believing that whoever clinches the party certificate will almost certainly become the next Member of Parliament for Kitui Central.
For now, all eyes remain on Wiper’s leadership and its final decision on who will carry the party flag in what is shaping up to be a closely watched succession battle.
