Kitui County Deputy Speaker and Kyangwithya West Member of County Assembly, Hon. Christopher Nzilu, attended the burial of the late Monica Nditi Malonza, aged 118, at Mangina Village on Saturday.
During the ceremony, Hon. Nzilu learned of two academically gifted students who had not reported to Grade 10 due to financial constraints. Demonstrating his commitment to education, he mobilized his friends and stepped in to support the girls.
Ruth Nzuki, who was admitted to St. Angelaโs School, and Esther Ndundo Wambua, admitted to Zombe AIC Girls, both scored over 60 points in their national exams. With Hon. Nziluโs assistance, these two will be were able to join their respective schools on Monday without delay.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Nzilu emphasized the importance of supporting bright students and ensuring that financial challenges do not hinder access to education. โEducation is the key to unlocking the potential of our youth. We must all play our part to help talented students achieve their dreams,โ he said.
Residents at Mangina Village praised the Deputy Speaker for his timely intervention, noting that such support would go a long way in shaping the future of the two girls and inspiring others in the community.
The burial ceremony of Monica Nditi Malonza was attended by a large turnout of locals, family, and county leaders, reflecting the high regard in which the late matriarch was held.
Hon. Nzilu, who is also a hopeful for the Kitui Central Parliamentary seat, has continued to demonstrate his commitment to social causes and education, further cementing his profile as a leader invested in the welfare of his constituents.
Community elders hailed his gesture as a model of leadership that combines compassion with action, particularly in areas of education and youth development.
The Deputy Speaker urged other leaders to identify and support talented students, saying that no child should be denied education due to lack of resources.
