Residents of Kitui South have every reason to celebrate after President William Ruto officially launched the construction of the Ikutha–Kanziku–Mutha–Mutomo Road, a major infrastructure project valued at KSh 1.72 billion. The road, once completed, is expected to transform the region’s economy by enhancing connectivity, trade, and access to essential services across Kitui South and neighbouring areas.
The historic launch took place during President Ruto’s development tour of Kitui South, where he was hosted by area Member of Parliament Dr. Racheal Kaki Nyamai and Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe. The President praised Dr. Kaki for her tireless efforts and consistent lobbying that ensured the road project became a reality, describing her as a dedicated leader committed to transforming her constituency.
The new road will link the key trading centres of Ikutha, Kanziku, Mutha, and Mutomo, opening up the vast and previously marginalized areas to greater investment and agricultural productivity. Once complete, the project will ease transportation of farm produce, improve access to schools and hospitals, and boost business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
President Ruto emphasized that his government remains focused on delivering development projects that directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens, particularly in rural and arid regions like Kitui South. He assured residents that his administration would ensure the road is completed on schedule and constructed to the highest standards.
Governor Malombe hailed the national government for prioritizing Kitui’s infrastructure needs, noting that the project will complement the county’s development agenda and promote regional growth. He also commended Dr. Kaki for fostering strong collaboration between the national and county governments to deliver tangible results for the people.
Area MP Dr. Racheal Kaki Nyamai expressed gratitude to the President for fulfilling a long-standing dream of Kitui South residents. She said the road will not only enhance mobility and safety but also stimulate social and economic transformation in the entire constituency, marking a new chapter of progress and opportunity.
