Kilonzo Joins Wiper, Eyes Kitui Central MP Seat in 2027
Former Kitui senatorial aspirant Stephen Kilonzo has officially defected from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya, signaling a notable political realignment in Kitui County ahead of the 2027 General Election. The move places Kilonzo within the camp led by opposition chief Kalonzo Musyoka as local leaders begin strategizing for upcoming contests.
Kilonzo’s admission into the Wiper party has been formally approved, positioning him as a strong contender for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat. The constituency is currently represented by Makali Mulu, who is widely expected to shift focus to the gubernatorial race in 2027, potentially leaving the seat open for a competitive battle.
In an exclusive interview, Kilonzo described his defection as a turning point in his political career, terming it a “fresh start” after a period of uncertainty. He expressed confidence that his move reflects the will of the people, noting that it followed wide consultations with his political allies, advisors, and grassroots supporters.
He emphasized that leadership requires listening to wananchi, adding that the growing demand for a new political direction influenced his decision to join Wiper. According to Kilonzo, the party’s agenda aligns closely with the needs and expectations of the people of Kitui Central.
Kilonzo also reaffirmed his commitment to delivering transformative leadership, pledging to serve with integrity, courage, and results. He called for unity among his supporters as he begins building a people-centered campaign, expressing optimism about securing victory in the 2027 parliamentary race.
