President William Ruto has congratulated Monica Juma following her appointment as the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna.

In a statement, the president praised Dr. Juma’s long record of public service, noting that her professionalism and dedication to national duty have earned her global recognition.

Ruto said Juma had demonstrated exceptional leadership in the various roles she has held in government, most recently serving as the National Security Advisor and Secretary to the National Security Council.

“Dr. Juma has served our country with utmost professionalism and patriotism, giving her best in every assignment she has been entrusted with. This has now earned her a place on the international stage,” the president said.

The head of state also thanked António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, for the appointment, describing it as a recognition not only of Kenya’s talent but also of women’s leadership.

Ruto noted that the appointment comes during the month when the world marks International Women’s Day, celebrating the achievements and contributions of women globally.

“Kenya remains committed to multilateralism and looks forward to continued collaboration with the United Nations,” he added.

The president concluded by congratulating Dr. Juma and wishing her success in her new international role.
