Makueni County has welcomed the appointment of Governor H.E. Hon. Mutula Kilonzo Jr. as a Commissioner at the Kenya Law Reform Commission (KLRC), a move expected to boost the voice of counties in shaping national laws and policy reforms.
Governor Mutula will serve a six-year term at the Commission, representing the Council of Governors. His inclusion in the national legal reform body is seen as a significant step toward strengthening devolution and ensuring county governments play a central role in the country’s legislative development.
County leaders and residents expressed optimism that the governor’s vast experience in governance and law will contribute to addressing legal and institutional gaps affecting service delivery across counties.
Through his new role, Governor Mutula is expected to champion reforms aimed at closing legal loopholes, tackling institutional challenges, and safeguarding devolution gains. His appointment is also anticipated to enhance collaboration between national and county governments in the formulation and review of laws that impact local development.
The Kenya Law Reform Commission is mandated to review, harmonize, and modernize Kenya’s legal framework to align with the Constitution and emerging governance needs.
