Kitui Women Representative Irene Kasalu has called on the national government to urgently deploy a special operations unit to the border areas of Kitui County to address rising insecurity.

Speaking during an interview on a popular radio station, Dr. Kasalu expressed concern over the increasing presence of armed criminals operating along the county’s borders. She urged security agencies to take decisive action to flush out the suspects and recover illegal firearms believed to be in circulation.

The legislator emphasized that the safety of residents must be prioritized, noting that persistent insecurity continues to disrupt livelihoods and instill fear among communities living in affected areas.

“We need a coordinated and firm response from the national government. Deploying a specialized unit will help restore order and protect our people,” she said.

Kasalu’s remarks come amid growing calls from leaders and residents for enhanced security measures in Kitui, particularly in regions prone to cross-border criminal activities.

At the same time, the Women Rep is positioning herself in the county’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election. She is among leaders eyeing the Kitui gubernatorial seat on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket, setting the stage for a competitive race within the party.

Her latest stance on security is expected to shape part of her broader campaign agenda as she seeks to appeal to voters concerned about safety and stability in the region.

Kasalu further called for stronger collaboration between national and county security teams, urging intelligence sharing and regular patrols in hotspot areas to deter criminal activities and enhance rapid response.

She also appealed to local communities to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities, saying public participation is key in restoring lasting peace and security.

The lawmaker reiterated that addressing insecurity will remain a top priority in her leadership agenda, promising sustained advocacy to ensure residents of Kitui live without fear.
