Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe today joined bereaved families, leaders and residents in mourning the seven people who were brutally killed during last Saturday’s attack at Kwa Kamari in Tseikuru Ward, Mwingi North Sub-County.
The emotional requiem mass drew hundreds of mourners who gathered to pay their final respects to the victims of the tragic attack.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Malombe conveyed his heartfelt condolences, as well as those of the County Government of Kitui, to the bereaved families, assuring them of the county’s unwavering solidarity and support during this painful period.
He affirmed that the county government will work closely with the National Government to strengthen security infrastructure and implement necessary measures aimed at safeguarding the lives, property and livelihoods of Kitui residents.
The Governor emphasized the urgent need for sustainable solutions to insecurity in the region and beyond, noting that protecting citizens remains a top priority for both levels of government.
Meanwhile, Wiper Patriotic Front Party Leader Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka also conveyed his condolences to the affected families through a phone call, expressing deep sorrow over the tragic loss.
Dr. Musyoka underscored the need to strengthen security interventions in the region, calling for decisive and sustained action to address recurring attacks and ensure residents can live in peace without fear.
Other leaders present echoed calls for enhanced security presence and long-term peacebuilding strategies to restore stability in the affected area, even as bereaved families come to terms with the devastating loss of their loved ones.
Among those in attendance were MPs Paul Nzengu (Mwingi North) and Dr. Irene Kasalu (Kitui), Tseikuru Deputy County Commissioner Anetta Mwangi, MCAs Kimanzi Muange (Tseikuru), Munyoki Mwinzi (Kyuso), Alphonse Musyimi (Kyome/Thaana), and senior county government officials.
