Former Cabinet Secretary for EAC, ASALs and Regional Development, Peninah Malonza has expressed concern over the increasing cases of insecurity in Kitui County, citing recent killings in Kitui Town and the deadly attack in Tseikuru as signs of a worsening security situation.

In a media statement dated April 26, 2026, Malonza said residents are living in fear following a series of brutal incidents that have shaken communities across the county.

She noted that within less than a month, at least four women had reportedly been killed in Kitui Town under circumstances suspected to be linked to gender-based violence and possible femicide.

According to Malonza, the killings have sparked concern over the safety of women and the effectiveness of existing security measures.

The former CS also condemned the recent attack in Tseikuru where seven people were killed in an incident allegedly linked to armed herders. She described the attack as horrific and warned that armed groups continue to pose a major threat to communities living in ASAL regions.

Malonza at the same time commended William Ruto for directing security agencies to respond swiftly to the situation, including the deployment of the Deputy Inspector General of Police. She also praised the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for arresting individuals accused of incitement.

However, she maintained that the incidents point to a deeper problem in security coordination, prevention, and response.

“The continued loss of innocent lives is unacceptable,” she stated.

The former CS called for immediate and transparent investigations into all reported killings, enhanced security deployment in affected areas, decisive action against gender-based violence, and disarmament of armed herders operating in the region.

She further urged security agencies to maintain regular communication with the public to help restore confidence among residents.

Malonza said she remains confident that the government under President Ruto’s leadership will implement both immediate and long-term measures to restore peace and protect communities.

She concluded by standing in solidarity with the affected families, saying the people of Kitui deserve safety, dignity, and peace.
