Yatta Kwa Vonza Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Hon. Mark Ndingo, has urged residents to exercise caution while crossing rivers following the onset of heavy rains in the region.
Speaking during the governors cup tournament at Kiusyani ,Hon. Ndingo warned that the torrential downpours have caused river levels to rise significantly, increasing the risk of people being swept away. He called on parents to ensure that children avoid flooded areas and urged travelers to use safe crossings.
“The heavy rains we are experiencing pose a serious danger, especially when it comes to crossing swollen rivers. I appeal to all residents to be extra careful and avoid taking unnecessary risks,” he said.
His warning comes amid reports of rising water levels in several rivers across Kitui County, with authorities cautioning that more rainfall is expected in the coming weeks.
Residents have been advised to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to safety guidelines to prevent loss of lives. Local emergency response teams have also been put on high alert to assist in case of flood-related incidents.
