Okoa Youth Finals: CPA John Makau Calls for More Support to Youth Sports

A senior official from the Kitui County Government, John Makau, has emphasized the importance of nurturing young talents as a way of steering youth away from drugs, crime, and other harmful behaviors, while promoting discipline and positive life skills.

Makau was speaking during the finals of the Okoa Youth Football Tournament, held at Yumbu Grounds in Mwingi Central Sub-County, Kitui County. He said sports provide a powerful platform for engaging young people, helping them discover their talents and focus on productive activities that contribute to their personal growth and community development.

He noted that investing in youth activities such as sports is a practical path toward empowering the younger generation and building a responsible, skilled, and healthy society. According to Makau, sports not only promote physical fitness but also instill values such as teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

The county official reaffirmed the Kitui County Governmentโ€™s commitment to supporting youth programs, particularly those that use sports and talent development as tools to combat drug abuse, crime, and idleness among young people.
