Opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka is set to tour Kitui with firm instructions to his supporters and local leaders to keep the upcoming rally strictly presidential, warning against the display of placards and the introduction of constituency-level politics.
In a directive aimed at maintaining order and focus, HE Kalonzo has made it clear that the forum will be purely centered on his presidential agenda, urging aspirants eyeing various elective seats to refrain from turning the event into a campaign platform for their individual bids.
He cautioned that any attempts to disrupt the rally with local political rivalries or branding would not be tolerated, adding that the meeting must reflect unity and discipline among his supporters. Kalonzo further assured residents that the rally will be peaceful, noting that no speaker will be allowed to mention or attack opponents at the constituency level.
Residents across Kitui have welcomed the move, backing the decision to separate presidential campaigns from local political contests. Many expressed the view that while they fully support Kalonzo’s presidential ambitions, the choice of leaders for other positions should remain a democratic decision of the voters.
They dismissed the idea of a “six-piece voting pattern,” insisting that candidates will be elected based on merit and individual credentials rather than political alignment. Some likened the situation to personal style choices, noting that just as one does not wear matching colors for every outfit, voters are free to support different candidates across various seats while still backing Kalonzo’s presidential bid.
Aspirants have also been urged to respect the directive and maintain decorum throughout the rally, with leaders calling for unity and focus to ensure the event strengthens, rather than divides, the region’s political landscape.
