President William Ruto has reiterated that Northern Kenya holds the key to the country’s agricultural future, noting that major infrastructure projects in the region will play a critical role in achieving long-term food security.
Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in the north, the President said the completion of the Isiolo–Mandera and Isiolo–Garissa–Lamu roads will open up the vast region for agricultural production and economic growth.“Northern Kenya is where the future of our agriculture lies.
The completion of these roads will open up the region, actualising our vision of being a food-secure country in the long run,” President Ruto said. The President, accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, inspected the Kulamawe–Garbatulla section of the 750-kilometre Isiolo–Mandera road.
The road forms part of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at connecting and unlocking the economic potential of Northern Kenya.According to the Head of State, the multi-billion-shilling project is currently 45 per cent complete and is expected to significantly improve transport, trade and access to markets once finalized.
President Ruto emphasized that the government will continue investing in road infrastructure across the country to enhance connectivity and support economic transformation.“We will keep building more roads across the country, connecting every part of Kenya to fully harness our potential,” he said.
The Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project is expected to boost regional trade, enhance mobility, and support agricultural expansion by improving access to previously underserved areas in Northern Kenya.
