Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu Condemns Governor Kahiga’s Remarks on Raila’s Death
Former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has strongly condemned Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga over his controversial remarks regarding the passing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. In a statement, Ngilu described Kahiga’s comments as “grossly despicable, reckless, and an unwarranted attack on a grieving family and a community that is still reeling from a monumental loss.”
Ngilu said Kahiga’s utterances were insensitive and disrespectful, especially coming at a time when the nation is mourning the death of one of its most respected leaders. She urged leaders to show empathy and unity during such moments of national sorrow instead of sowing division and hatred through careless talk.
The former governor demanded that Kahiga issue an unreserved apology to the Odinga family and Kenyans at large, saying his behavior amounts to “unbridled bigotry.” She noted that leaders should be examples of decorum and tolerance, not agents of pain and provocation.
Ngilu’s statement comes amid growing public outrage and condemnation of Governor Kahiga’s remarks, which many Kenyans have termed as distasteful and disrespectful. The controversy continues to spark debate on the importance of responsible speech among public officials, particularly during times of mourning and national reflection.
