Wiper Patriotic Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka today publicly credited Kitui Central aspirant Stephen Kilonzo alias Kitundumo for successfully organizing a high-stakes political rally at Kalundu.
This acknowledgement is widely interpreted as a strong vote of confidence in Stephen Kilonzo’s growing influence and likeability across Kitui Central.
Speaking at Kalundu where he introduced Kitundumo, Kalonzo made it clear that the aspirant had been entrusted with the full responsibility of mobilizing and coordinating the event on behalf of area MP Makali Mulu, who is currently out of the country.
The endorsement by Kalonzo, delivered in front of a charged crowd, did not go unnoticed.
Observers noted that such an assignment is rarely handed out lightly within Wiper’s ranks, especially in a politically sensitive constituency like Kitui Central.
“That role cannot be given to political non starters and small players. It’s clear Kitundumo has properly warmed his way into Kalonzo’s heart” said a political observer.
By placing the rally in Kitundumo’s hands, Kalonzo appeared to signal trust not just in his organizational ability, but also in his political judgment and connection with the grassroots.
For Kitundumo, that trust seemed well placed.
From early morning, Kitundumo’s team ran a tight, energetic operation, mobilizing crowds, maintaining order and keeping the program flowing seamlessly.
Teams aligned to other little known aspirants appeared disjointed and lacking coordination.
Political analysts say the Kalundu moment could prove pivotal. Being singled out by Kalonzo in such a public manner elevates Kitundumo’s standing within the Wiper hierarchy and sends a clear message to both supporters and rivals
“He is a figure the party leadership believes can be relied upon” analysts say.
