President William Ruto, accompanied by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, today presided over a major land and infrastructure development event in Mwingi North, Kitui County. The President issued 15,000 title deeds to residents of Kamuwongo and neighboring areas in a move aimed at resolving long-standing land ownership disputes and empowering communities through secure land tenure.
Speaking during the event, President Ruto reaffirmed his government’s commitment to addressing land ownership challenges across the country, with a special focus on counties within the Lower Eastern region — Kitui, Makueni, and Machakos. He noted that issuing title deeds is a key step in ensuring citizens can use their land productively, access credit facilities, and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
In addition to the title deed issuance, the Head of State officially launched the tarmacking of the 13-kilometre Kamuwongo–Kandwia road. The road forms part of the larger Mwingi–Kamuwongo–Ciangera network, designed to link the Thika–Garissa highway at Mwingi town with the Ena–Chiakariga road. The project is expected to significantly improve transport and connectivity, boosting trade and access to markets for local agricultural produce.
Governor Dr. Malombe welcomed the President to Kitui and lauded the national government for its continued support to the county’s development agenda. He emphasized that the new road and land reforms will not only enhance economic activity but also transform the lives of residents by opening up new opportunities for business and investment.
Local leaders and residents expressed gratitude to both levels of government for prioritizing development in Mwingi North. They noted that the new road will ease movement, attract investors, and help farmers transport their produce to major markets more efficiently. The event was marked by jubilation and optimism as thousands of residents received their long-awaited land ownership documents.
