It was a day like no other More than 400 grassroots leaders from four wards in Kitui Central Constituency gathered on Sunday evening at the home of Kitui Deputy Speaker, Hon. Christopher Nzilu Nzioka, in Kyangwithya West, in a strong show of political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The leaders, drawn from across the constituency, held what they described as a “heavy catch-up” meeting with Nzilu, during which they unanimously urged him to contest for the Kitui Central parliamentary seat. They pledged their full backing during the upcoming General Elections
According to the leaders, Nzilu remains the most accessible and relatable aspirant among those eyeing the seat.
The grassroots representatives further declared that they would not allow the constituency’s parliamentary seat to be taken by someone who does not resonate with the people on the ground. They affirmef their commitment to Nzilu’s campaign “to the very end.”
In his response, Nzilu thanked the leaders for their overwhelming support, stating that their confidence in him strengthens his resolve to vie for the seat. He emphasized that his bid is people-driven, citing Article 1 of the Constitution, which vests sovereign power in the people.
Nzilu also urged the leaders to act as ambassadors of change by encouraging youth to register as voters with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), noting that voter turnout will be crucial in shaping the constituency’s future.
Leaders from Kyangwithya West echoed sentiments in favor of youthful leadership, and reaffirming their support to a transformational leadership rooted in servant leadership .
The meeting signals growing grassroots momentum around Nzilu’s potential candidacy, as political realignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections.
