On Wednesday April 2026 – Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe held high-level talks with India’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr. Adarsh Swaika, in Nairobi, as the county intensifies efforts to attract foreign investment into critical sectors.

The meeting focused on unlocking opportunities in agriculture, trade, and mineral development, with both leaders exploring strategic partnerships aimed at boosting value addition, widening market access, and driving sustainable economic growth in Kitui County, the TCD digital has learnt.

Governor Malombe emphasized the county’s vast untapped potential, particularly in agriculture and natural resources, noting that collaboration with international partners such as India could accelerate industrial growth and improve livelihoods for local communities.

Dr. Swaika reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation at both national and county levels, highlighting the importance of knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and investment in supporting local economies.The discussions come at a time when counties are increasingly positioning themselves as investment destinations by leveraging diplomatic ties and development partnerships.

The governor was accompanied by a team of senior county officials, including Agriculture CEC Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, Culture and Trade CEC Phoebe Mutemi, Environment CEC Richard Mwendandu, and Chief Officer for Trade Michael Kalii.The engagement signals Kitui County’s growing focus on international partnerships as a pathway to economic transformation.
