Kitui County Sensitizes Sand Transporters on New Sand Act 2024
The Kitui County Ministry of Energy, Environment, Forestry, Natural and Mineral Resources on Tuesday held a sensitization meeting at the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI) to discuss the operationalization of the Kitui County Sand Act, 2024.
The forum brought together sand transporters, dealers, and other stakeholders to educate them on registration, licensing, and compliance requirements as outlined in the new law.
Speaking during the session, CECM Richard Mwendandu underscored the County Government’s commitment to ensuring sustainable sand harvesting and environmental conservation. Also present were the Chairman of the Kitui County River Basins Sand Utilization and Conservation Committee, Benjamin Mukulo; Chief Officer Henry Nyamai; and Committee Secretary Evelyn Kasyoka, who all emphasized the importance of responsible sand utilization and strict adherence to the established policy framework aimed at protecting the county’s natural resources.
