The Kitui County Governor’s Cup has officially entered the sub-county level, marking a major milestone as competition intensifies and the hunt for football talent sharpens across the county.
Following spirited village and ward-level encounters, top boys’ and girls’ teams have advanced to the sub-county stage, where they will battle for a place in the county finals. The tournament, initiated by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, continues to attract large crowds and keen interest from football enthusiasts and talent scouts.
The sub-county matches will be staged across various venues, bringing together teams from neighboring wards and constituencies in highly competitive fixtures. The games are expected to showcase emerging talent while promoting unity, teamwork, and community cohesion.
County Executive Committee Member for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services, Ms. Phoebe Mutemi, reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to using sports as a tool for youth empowerment, social integration, and economic opportunity.
The winners from the sub-county stage will progress to the county finals, scheduled to be held in March 2026 at the 10,000-seater Ithookwe Stadium, where trophies and cash prizes await the champions.
As the tournament gathers momentum, excitement continues to build across Kitui County under the banner #TuchezefutanaGovernor, with residents rallying behind their local teams in anticipation of the decisive stages ahead.
