Mwala Constituency erupted in celebration as President William Samoei Ruto commissioned a series of transformative development projects, marking a historic turning point for the region. The occasion, championed under the slogan “Tutam for President William”, highlighted the growing political support for the Head of State as he doubled down on promises to spur economic growth and improve livelihoods in the constituency.
At the centre of the President’s visit was the official launch of the upgrading of the 22-kilometre Kivandini–Miseleni Road to bitumen standards, a long-awaited project that will revolutionize accessibility within the fruit-rich Mbiuni Ward. For years, farmers in the region have struggled with poor road conditions that hindered market access and limited their earnings.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka hailed the initiative as an “economic lifeline.” He noted that the improved road will facilitate faster transportation of produce, reduce post-harvest losses, and open up new trade opportunities for thousands of residents who depend on agriculture for survival.
In a further boost to local commerce, President Ruto announced Ksh 150 million for the construction of two modern markets within the constituency. He said the markets will provide decent spaces for small-scale traders, many of whom operate in unsafe and unstructured environments, and will help strengthen the local economy through enhanced trade flow.
The President also prioritized education and youth empowerment by allocating an additional Ksh 150 million toward the construction of student hostels at Mwala Technical Training Institute. The facility will increase student accommodation capacity, attract learners from a wider region, and reinforce the government’s commitment to technical and vocational training as a pathway to job creation.
On water security, President Ruto confirmed that the Mwala Cluster Water Project is now 60 percent complete, with full commissioning expected within the next four months. The multibillion-shilling initiative will supply clean and reliable water to schools, homes, and commercial centres once complete, easing the burden on communities long dependent on seasonal rivers and water vendors.
Residents and local leaders widely praised the announcements, stating that President Ruto’s actions reflect genuine concern for the development needs of Mwala. Many said the initiatives will not only improve livelihoods but also restore hope among citizens who have waited decades for meaningful infrastructural investment.
The package of projects represents one of the largest coordinated government interventions in Mwala in recent years. By targeting infrastructure, education, trade and water, the development blueprint aligns with the administration’s broader Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
With renewed optimism, leaders called for unity and cooperation to ensure swift implementation of the projects. They assured the President that the constituency stands ready to support his vision and work closely with government agencies to ensure transparency and accountability in project execution.
As the President departed, a wave of optimism swept across the constituency, with locals confident that the announced investments will usher in a new era of progress. The day’s events not only cemented President Ruto’s development footprint in Mwala but also signaled a brighter, more prosperous future for its people.
