Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe hosted President William Ruto in Mwingi North during the official launch of the upgrading of the Kamuwongo–Kandwia Road to bitumen standard. The event, held at Kamuw’ongo Market, brought together national and county leaders, area residents, and development stakeholders who turned up in large numbers to witness the historic occasion.
The 13-kilometre Kamuwongo–Kandwia stretch forms part of the larger Mwingi–Kamuwongo–Ciangera Road, which connects to the Thika–Garissa highway at Mwingi town and links with the Ena–Chiakariga road. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance transport, ease movement of goods and people, and open up new economic opportunities in the northern region of Kitui.
President Ruto, in his address, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the country, saying that quality roads are key to unlocking rural development and boosting agricultural productivity. He emphasized that the government will continue partnering with counties to ensure equitable development and prosperity for all regions.
Governor Malombe, on his part, welcomed the President and thanked the national government for supporting Kitui’s development agenda. He noted that the road will greatly benefit local traders, farmers, and transporters by improving market access and reducing travel time.
The event also provided an opportunity for local leaders to call for continued collaboration between the national and county governments in implementing projects that uplift the lives of residents. Jubilant residents cheered as construction machinery rolled onto the site, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in Mwingi North’s infrastructure transformation.
