NARC MCAs Dethrone Alex Nganga in Leadership Shake-Up as Speaker Kinengo Approves Changes

A political storm is brewing in the Kitui County Assembly following a dramatic leadership overhaul that saw Miambani Ward MCA, Hon. Alex Mutambu Nganga, ousted as the Minority Leader. The changes, initiated by a section of NARC MCAs, were officially ratified by Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya during Wednesday’s afternoon plenary sitting.

In the new lineup, Nguni Ward MCA Hon. Jeremiah Musee Mutua takes over as the new Minority Leader, while Hon. Boniface Maundu Katumbi becomes Deputy Minority Leader. Hon. Gabriel Mutunga Munyao was named the new Minority Whip, with Hon. Kalamba Musau assuming the position of Deputy Minority Whip. The Speaker cited the Assembly Standing Orders to affirm the legality of the changes and urged the new team to discharge their duties with unity and integrity.

However, the move has sparked tension within the NARC ranks, with Hon. Alex Nganga vowing to fight back, terming his removal “politically motivated.” He claimed that his ouster was orchestrated by colleagues unhappy with his close working relationship with Governor Dr. Julius Malombe. “I am being punished for supporting the Governor’s development agenda. This is not about performance but politics,” said Nganga shortly after the announcement.

On their part, the NARC MCAs defending the leadership changes accused Nganga of absenteeism and failing to attend crucial Assembly sittings. “Leadership requires presence and commitment to House business. You cannot lead from outside,” said one MCA allied to the new team. As the political tension escalates, all eyes are now on the County Assembly to see who will blink first in this unfolding leadership tussle that threatens to divide the Minority side further.
