The Kitui County Assembly has approved the appointment of Hon. Boniface Maundu Katumbi to the powerful County Budget and Appropriations Committee following the removal of Hon. Alex Mutambu Nganga.
The approval came during the Wednesday afternoon sitting after Members of the County Assembly passed a motion moved by Harrison Maluki Mawia, the Majority Leader and MCA for Migwani Ward. The motion sought to replace Nganga in accordance with Standing Order No. 167(3) of the Assembly’s Standing Orders.
While moving the motion, Maluki informed the House that Nganga had failed to attend four consecutive committee sittings and also ignored an invitation by the committee to explain his absence, contrary to the Assembly’s rules.
He assured members that the correct procedure had been followed, noting that the matter had been reviewed by the House Business Committee before being presented to the House for approval.
Seconding the motion, Jeremiah Musee Mutua, the Minority Leader and MCA for Nguni Ward, confirmed that the House Business Committee unanimously supported the decision to replace Nganga with Katumbi in the influential budget committee.
Following the approval, Speaker Kevin Kinengo Katisya congratulated Katumbi on his new role and wished him success as he undertakes his duties in overseeing county budget matters.
The Budget and Appropriations Committee plays a critical role in scrutinizing and guiding financial planning and expenditure within the county government.
